Devika, a popular Tamil heroine of yesteryears, died at a private hospital here early this morning, family sources said. She was 59 and is survived by her husband and daughter Kanaka, also a popular actress.Devika had acted in nearly 150 films, including some in Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. She was paired with several prominent actors like ‘Sivaji’ Ganesan, M G Ramachandran and ‘Gemini’ Ganesan.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa conveyed her deep sympathies to the family members of Devika. In her condolence message, Jayalalithaa, said: “Devika, who had acted in over 150 films, was a prominent character actress and she was held in high esteem by film lovers.”
Devika was admitted to the hospital last Friday following complaints of chest pain.
